INTERNATIONAL
Carson Long Military Academy helps shape the lives of young men from across the globe. Our international cadets typically comprises about 20% of the student population and the 2010-2011 school year featured cadets from ten countries on six continents. At Carson Long, “diversity” is more than a concept. It is a way of life.
Everyone at Carson Long benefits from the presence of our international Cadets. Respect and understanding of multicultural beliefs and traditions are encouraged. Cadets are exposed to multiple languages spoken on campus. They also learn the universal language of respect for authority, self confidence, and time management, and that rules apply to all regardless of race, creed, or financial status—both in and out of the classroom.
If you are an international family looking for your son to study in America, you and your son have a life changing opportunity at Carson Long.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1) Does Carson Long have the authority to issue I-20 forms for students applying for F-1 Student Visas?
Yes we do. Should you apply, be accepted, and choose to enroll (by paying your deposit) at Carson Long as an international student, we will issue an I-20 for you to take to the U.S. consulate or embassy near you and use when you apply for an F-1 student visa.
2) Do you offer an ESL (English as a Second Language) program?
We do. We offer classroom ESL as part of our course selection for our international cadets. Our ESL course is designed to expose international students to American culture and language and prepares them for college level English.
We also offer an ESL Summer Camp. The Summer ESL Camp is designed to give international students a “jump start” with English prior to the beginning of the Academic year. Students should complete the camp with the ability to conversationally speak English to ease their academic transition. Questions concerning our summer program may be directed to our Admissions Office.
3) Are international students required to take the SLEP (Secondary Level English Proficiency) Test or TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Test?
No, we do not require either of these tests for acceptance to Carson Long.
4) Can international students leave campus early or return late from scheduled breaks to facilitate travel arrangements?
No, they may not. All vacations are set and posted prior to the school year. Please make flight times so that they fit during our vacation times
5) Does Carson Long offer home-stay programs over the school vacations for International Students who do not wish to go home?
No, we do not. Those who do not choose to travel to their home countries for the break must make arrangements as to where they will stay during school vacations. Many boys go home with friends and roommates, but this must be worked out parent-to-parent, as the school cannot be responsible for boys during breaks. If a cadet remains at school over a break, there is an additional cost for the stay.
