Basketball Warriors Open 2017-18 Misstate Athletic Conference Slate with Lopsided Victory Over Rival Harrisburg Academy
The Carson Long Basketball Warriors, fresh of their repeat championship performance at the Lititz Christian Tipoff Tournament last weekend, travelled to long-time rival Harrisburg Academy for their first MAC Conference game of the year and won in resounding fashion 64-24.
The Spartans are a young team and opened up their season in the Harrisburg Christian Tournament last weekend, but dropped both games. H.A. Head Coach Steve Pancoski noted that there are nine freshmen on his roster this year, so some growing pains are to be expected. In fact, the Spartans drew first blood with an early Dominic Savarino 3-pointer that gave Harrisburg Academy an early 3-0 lead. It was the only lead the Spartans would enjoy all night. The Warriors would quickly claw their way back into the mix, and ended up leading after one quarter 14-9.
Over the next two quarters, the Warriors went into overdrive and didn’t look back. They outscored the Spartans 20-4 in the 2nd quarter and 20-6 in the 3rd. During that span, junior PG AJ Migliarini dropped 13 of his career high 21 points, while big man Tristin Garcia scored 15 of his 19 points. Versatile wing Brandon Osafo scored 12 points and hauled in 10 boards and frustrated the Spartan offense. During much of the 2nd half, the junior varsity players saw some extended time, highlighted by lighting-quick reserve guard Lucas Fitchett picking the pocket of the H.A. guards for five steals and three lay ups, and newcomer Quadir Gatling worked the inside for a well-deserved 4 points.
